Meeting Amma

Whether Amma is touring or is in her Spiritual Center in India, she is doing one thing most of the time – that is, receiving one and all who have assembled in her presence with a gentle, warm embrace.

One of Amma’s followers said, “Amma’s hug is like a gentle river caressing our parched souls. In fact, it is hard to describe her embrace. It is an experience where my mind stops and feels completely relaxed and loved.”

It is hard to comprehend the source of Amma’s inexhaustible energy that flows from moment to moment, day after day, in the form of a loving, motherly hug. Often she sits for more than 18-20 hours straight without even a moments break. Over the past 40 years Amma has hugged more than 31 million people around the globe.

Amma usually tours through Europe every October and November. She also visits North America, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Kenya and many other places around the world. In India, she sometimes stays at Amritapuri, the headquarters of her charitable and spiritual mission, located in Kerala, South India. At other times she is traveling through India to conduct programmes.
